About this product

Opening a phone or a tablet is a diagnosis problem before it is a tools problem: the back cover or screen assembly is held by clips and adhesive, and the repair question is where to enter without cracking the glass. A set of metal spudgers covers the prying part — thin blades slide into the seam and walk along it to release clips, and a wider blade gives leverage for stubborn corners. Metal beats plastic where the seam is tight, but it also scratches and can short components if you poke near a live board, so the working rule is: metal for separation, plastic for anything near the battery or board. What this 3-piece kit does not include is the other half of most modern repairs: adhesive holds the panel down as well as clips, so you will normally also want a suction cup and a heat source to soften the glue, plus a screwdriver for the pentalobe or Phillips screws under the cover. Wearing safety glasses while prying near a screen is not optional advice — glass lets go suddenly.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Three blade profiles in one kit: thin for tight seams, wide for leverage
  • Metal edges survive the clip-heavy seams that chew up plastic picks
  • Works across phones, tablets and other clip-held enclosures, not one brand only
  • Cheap enough to keep as a one-drawer repair staple

Cons

  • Metal scratches paint and can short a live board — the plastic pick for battery/board work has to come from somewhere else
  • Exact blade dimensions are not listed, so check the thickness fits your device's seam
  • Adhesive-held panels still need a suction cup and heat — this kit alone does not open a glued screen
