About this product
A clip-on lavalier microphone solves one problem neatly: you want the voice close to the mouth without holding anything, and you want the sound to land in the phone you are already filming with. This version ends in a Lightning plug, so it is made for iPhones and iPads that still carry that socket. Before you order, work through three points. The first is the socket on your device, because Lightning and USB-C are different shapes and the plugs are not interchangeable, so an iPhone 15, an iPad with USB-C or any Android phone needs the USB-C version of this product instead. The second is power, since a lavalier mic of this type draws a small amount of current from the phone and passive 3.5mm mics work on different rules. The third is monitoring, because many compact units have no headphone pass-through, which means you record first and listen afterwards. In use, clip it at collar height, keep the capsule out of the direct breath stream so plosives stay soft, and remember that on a microphone at this price the cable and the plug are the parts that wear out first, so treat the strain relief gently rather than pulling the cable to unplug it.

Pros & cons
Pros
- Plugs into the Lightning port with no adapter, so filming starts as soon as the phone is out
- Frees both hands for holding the phone, a light or a product while you talk
- Small and light enough to leave clipped to a shirt collar between takes
- Low price makes a spare unit or a second-angle mic realistic
Cons
- It only fits Lightning devices, so USB-C iPhones, USB-C iPads and Android phones need a different version
- No headphone pass-through on this type of unit, so you cannot monitor while recording
- Cable and plug take the wear on a lav mic at this price, so strain relief matters
- Wireless operation is not part of this product, and the short cable sets how far you can stand
