9-piece Gundam assembly starter kit — nipper, tweezers, file, knife and sanding tools: what the set covers, what to add and how the grades differ
A first tool kit for snap-fit plastic model kits has one job above all: get parts off the runner without stress marks, because white stress marks on dark plastic are what separate a clean build from a sloppy one. The nippers in a 9-piece starter set handle the double cut — coarse cut off the gate, then a second pass tight to the part — and the file, sanding sticks and knife take over where the nipper left a nub. Tweezers exist for the decals and the tiny clear parts fingers ruin. What the set does not include, and what most newcomers meet two builds later, is a finer single-blade nipper for the final pass and a top coat for finishing; the starter tools get you to a solid assembled model, and the upgrades are about the surface, not the assembly. Knife safety is part of the kit: cut with the blade moving away from your supporting hand, and cap the blade between sessions.
